What's What?
You want to find your way in the maze of ePortfolio initiatives and you wonder: What's What?
- What is an ePortfolio?
- An ePortfolio is a purposeful (digital) selection of evidence demonstrating your achievements as reflective learner or professional. In other words, it is an electronic document presenting information about who you are as learner or professional. It may include information on your values, interests, educational route with achievements (what you have learnt from positive and negative experiences), learning, skills and competencies.
- What are ePortfolios made of?
- ePortfolios usually include a storage space (repository), a dialogue and reflection space and a presentation space (the visible part of your ePortfolio)
- Which ePortfolio tool should I choose for myself?
- There are a number of different tools that can be used to create an ePortfolio, from free online tools to proprietary ePortfolio management systems. Choosing a tool for oneself is very different from choosing a tool for a community or an organisation.
- Why Choose an Open Source ePortfolio?
- There are different reasons to choose an Open Source ePortfolio platforms: personal value (some believe that software should be free), budget (although 'open source' does not always equate to 'free'), quality of the platform, etc. If you don't want to manage a server to host your own ePortfolio platform, you can use the services of a platform or server provider.
